I just put in a t5 in my 72, swapped it out for a th350..a (BOP one!! but thats another story) I used a t5 out of a transam and used the bellhousing, hyd clutch and transmission. I had to have a shorter drive shaft made, if your is in good shape you may be able to just have it cut down.
