Instead of requiring two ascension perks to be taken, each ascension path is now a tradition tree unlocked by an ascension perk.

IIRC, Ancient weapons are equivalent to tier III or IV repeatable tech weapons, so even with the buffs from the ascension perk they get overtaken by regular repeatable in the late-game. It's probably more useful now that tech rush has been nerfed, but I haven't played a game recently enough to opine on that.
