It's random enough to feel exciting but more reliable than Shuffle or Primordial which can be unplayable imo. Sometimes it's multiple big oceans you can connect with good Canal cities and build a super trade empire. Sometimes it's 1 big ass ocean and naval strength is viable. I've been playing a decent amount of Seven Seas lately, but I do like having large bodies of water more connected. After seeing everything laid out like this, I might switch over to island plates or primordial as my go-to.

It's good when you start on a different landmass from other civs, but if not you get stuck with a small amount of space until you can send settlers across water. It also sucks when sea levels rise and wipe out up to 70% of usable land of some cities, until you get flood barriers. 3.
