For PVE, strength is good. Really anything is good in PVE, so dont worry too much. Things like vordt's hammer annihilate bosses and ultras are amazing for taking on stronger enemies. For PVP, strength is a mixed bag. For team fighting and ganking it's very strong, wide hits, long stuns, good damage, and poise ofc.

The best build I've used so far is a pyromancy build. I used great chaos fire orb and cataclysm the most. Each is enough to one shot most basic enemies including black knights. Sacred flame and profaned flame were also amazing. My stats were 30 vigor, 40 attunement, 20 endurance, 8 vitality, 10 strength, 15 dex, 40 intelligence, and 40 faith.
