My guess is that Sig would have discontinued the model entirely had it not been for the French Government contract.

Hmmm. Usually guns become discontinued because they don't sell well, or have a repeated issue (s) malfunctioning. I don't recall the last time (if ever) my P239 in 9 malfunctioned. I could see however that it may not be selling well against some of the other offerings they are selling currently.
