Dr. Protevi is a super nice and caring guy. The majority of the class is discussion based, and you will be expected to read 2-3 books. Only work there is is the group discussions each week, one analysis paper, the midterm, a group project, and the final. Dr. Protevi even gave us an extra two weeks to write paper and made final optional. Great guy!

Textbook: Yes. Many people give Tarfulea low ratings, but he's actually a good professor. Some professors say too little in lectures. Tarfulea, unfortunately, sometimes says too much in his lectures. That being said, he's extraordinarily smart and knowledgeable. Attending class is mandatory for understanding.

I had a great TA, Kadeem Hayes, so it depends. Professor Hurst herself seems intimidating and you don't really contact her. The experiments, data pages and data analysis are pretty straightforward.
