Yes doing it solo increases your chances of getting an exotic and is the best way to get the exotic. You can still earn an exotic from that lost sector if you have a fireteam with you but that's rare. I've had a legendary lost sector drop an exotic in 3 different occasion and it's happened with my friends too.

Here's what I do. On days with easy sectors like Skydock, I fill my engram slots and farm for lost sector exotic engrams in post master. Thanks man. Someone did extensive testing on many lost sectors (literally several thousand total runs) and found a roughly 25% exotic drop rate for legend and 33% for master. Estimated average drop rates are 25% (Legend) and 33% (Master), BUT that is also an average over a very long run. It could take as few as 1 run or as much as 30 runs for a drop. The draw for Lost Sectors is the targeted drops, but the trade off (to say nightfalls with better drop rates, but no targeting) is that the RNG could be VERY shitty. 2.Final Thoughts: 151 Master lost sectors. 35 exotics. 15 - 20 hours over 5 days JUST from successful runs.
