The MCX Virtus upper receiver assembly features a standard free-floating M-LOK handguard with a top picatinny rail for sight and optic, as well as a short-stroke piston system and unique internal recoil system that eliminate the M4-style buffer tube resulting in a light-recoiling and compact platform able to be configured for any task.
The buffer tube is gone with the adapter. So you're essentially dedicating a lower to it to the mcx upper. If I remember correctly the kit comes with a hinge adapter that you can use with a standard buffer tube if you wanted to. With a regular ar15 lower there is a quarter inch 90 degree shelf between lower and upper on both sides. It works fine, but not so pretty.
The upper kits come with all the parts needed to convert any standard AR lower to run an MCX Virtus or Rattler upper. I have a complete Rattler and a Virtus upper, and I can move either of these uppers to the MCX Lower or the standard AR lowers with the AR Converter.

My understandind is that Virtus is the current brand for SIG's MCX rifle. Virtus is available in pistol & rifle setups as 5.56 or 300Blk. Several barrel lengths offered with the 16" rifle called Patrol. Rattler is a specialized Virtus model with it's uniquely shorten barrel, gas system and handguard upper.
