Dan It looks like your comparing 454 pistol ballistics against 45/70 rifle ballistics. My 454 Puma will shoot the 360gr in the 1900 fps area. That is still not a 45/70 Magnum load but I believe it will work. And if you put the 500 S&W in a 16in nonported barrel I suspect the numbers wouldn't look much different than the 45/70 as it should …
