The Nitro Special action was entirely designed by Ithaca and bore no resemblance to any Dan Lefever design. I believe that the original price of a Nitro Special was $27.50. This gun, along with all Ithaca doubles, was discontinued in 1948. The best Parker, A.H. Fox and L.C. Smith guns were even fancier and more refined than the high grade Ithacas.This Lefever Model Nitro Special is a side by side shotgun in 12 Ga. It has 28 inch barrels with extractors and a grooved top solid rib. A brass bead front sight. With 2 3/4 inch chambers it has fixed Full and Modified chokes. The butt stock is a lightly checkered grip walnut round knob pistol grip. The forearm is a lightly checkered grip walnut.

From the get-go in 1922 Ithaca's Lefever Nitro Special was chambered for 2 3/4-inch shells in 12- and 20-gauge and 2 9/16-inch shells in 16-gauge. When introduced in 1925 the .410-bore was chambered for 2 1/2-inch shells. By 1934 the 16-gauge was upped to 2 3/4-inch and the .410-bore to 3-inch. Drew Hause.
