Mage Hand is not really that effective, as of now it is mostly for shoving enemies off cliffs or into dangerous surfaces. Larian has this gimmick with "surfaces", which can be created or interacted with mostly via magic. Create Water is one such spell, it creates a "wet" surface and it removes "burning" surfaces.
