The key is that the aberrations replace elites in certain ambushes (when the foghorn sound plays and you get mobbed), so you want an area where you get ambushed a lot or have lots of enemy waves.
The Corrupted Meridian is better than the base version in every way. The Corrupted Rune Pistol is also a contender since you can pop the damage bonus on it and swap to a real gun. It also supports your team if you have friends. I have been using the corrupted rune pistol, and it does hold up with its damage, a very solid sidearm imo.
