SMART on FHIR is an open, standards-based platform for medical apps. It is designed to lower the barriers for electronic health record systems to participate in an app ecosystem. SMART on FHIR builds on two technology efforts: the Harvard-based SMART Platforms Project and HL7® Fast Health Information Resources (FHIR®).Patient accesses an app developed using the SMART & FHIR standards. To access patient information, the app will authenticate the patient using Okta including Multi-factor authentication (MFA) if desired. Okta will then redirect the patient to the consent/patient selection screen. Okta will issue the requested OAuth2 token after consent is given.SMART on FHIR offers free tools to speed up SMART on FHIR app development.
