The Tongo Tongo Ambush occurred on October 4, 2017, in the Tongo Tongo region of Niger, near the border with Mali. A joint patrol of Nigerien and U.S. troops, part of a counterterrorism mission, was ambushed by militants affiliated with the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).
